What Each Trade Means

Pant goes home to Delhi

Pant played for Delhi from 2016 to 2024 and captained them before LSG bought him for a record ₹27 crore at the 2025 mega auction. He stepped down as LSG captain during IPL 2026, and the trade takes him back to Delhi on a much smaller fee of ₹15 crore.

LSG get a top spinner

Kuldeep Yadav, one of India’s best white-ball spinners, joins LSG on his existing ₹13.5 crore fee. LSG finished last in 2026, and they still have to name a new captain after Pant’s exit.

Natarajan back at SRH

The left-arm fast bowler played five seasons for Sunrisers, from 2020 to 2024, before Delhi bought him for ₹10.75 crore. He returns to Hyderabad at a revised fee of ₹5 crore.

Ansari adds spin for DC

Leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari has taken six wickets in 10 IPL games. He moves to Delhi on his existing ₹40 lakh fee and gives them another spin option.

How IPL Trades Work

A trade lets two teams move a player outside the auction. Here are the rules in plain words.

When trades can happen

The window opens a month after the season ends and closes a week before the auction. It opens again after the auction and runs until a month before the next season.

Two kinds of trade

In a swap, two teams exchange players and the team getting the pricier player pays the difference. In an all-cash trade, one team simply buys the player.

Everyone has to agree

Both teams must agree, and the player has to give his consent. A team cannot be forced to let a player go, even if he wants to leave.

The fee can change

A traded player can move on a new fee. Pant went from ₹27 crore to ₹15 crore, and Natarajan from ₹10.75 crore to ₹5 crore.

Transfer fees stay secret

On top of the player’s fee, teams can agree an extra transfer fee. It is not made public, and the player can get up to half of it, depending on his contract.

Only the fee hits the purse

A team’s auction purse goes down by the player’s fee only. The transfer fee does not come out of the purse.

When does the IPL 2027 trade window close?

About 9 December 2026, one week before the auction on 16 December. It opens again after the auction and stays open until a month before the season.

Has Hardik Pandya been traded for IPL 2027?

No. Hardik is still with Mumbai Indians. There have been reports of other teams asking about him, but no trade has been agreed or announced.

What is an all-cash trade in the IPL?

Does the transfer fee come out of the auction purse?

No. Only the player’s fee comes out of the purse. Any extra transfer fee is paid separately and is not made public.
